The celebration of World Soil Day took place in St. Petersburg
Events devoted to the celebration of World Soil Day took place on December 5 ― 6, 2018 in the St. Petersburg State University and in the Dokuchaev Central Soil Museum.
Eurasian Center for Food Security of Lomonosov Moscow State University together with the World Bank, the Dokuchaev Central Soil Museum, the St. Petersburg State University, University FAO Liaison Office with the Russian Federation, V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute, Russian State Agrarian University ― Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy and RUDN University organized the conference «Food Security, Soils and Human Capital in Soil Science» on the occasion of World Soil Day.
More than 100 participants from Russia, Armenia, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Italy, USA, Thailand, Uganda and Republic of South Africa of which participants from 33 organizations and 2 independent experts took part in the events.
As frame of the conference soil scientists, representatives of academia and business met together to discuss issues related to education and human capital in soil science, the importance and role of soil knowledge for food security.
Panel session, roundtable discussions «Soil Organic Carbon Cycle Management for Food Security and Climate Change Mitigation», «Soil Science and Digital Agriculture» and panel discussion «Soil Education and Food Security: New Millenium Challenges», master classes for young scientists, a poster session «Soil Pollution, Remediation and Food Quality» and a Parade of soils were the part of the event.
